Project Management
Our process puts the customer front and centre.
Commercial energy solutions require expert engineering. Our projects team have connected 1,200+ systems into every network in Australia. We are capable and have experience in the following areas:
Connection Approvals
Our Projects team will leverage their extensive experience with the DNSPs to handle all aspects of the connection application to ensure an efficient approval process.
Council Approvals
With a thorough understanding of council SEPP surrounding PV systems, Combined with our in-house experience with our strong consultant relationships, we acquire approvals in minimal time, with minimal design modification, and with minimal hassle to the client.
Switchboard modifications
Our Projects team has an in-depth understanding of switchboard design and has a wide range of partners to undertake modifications to existing infrastructure when required. Utilising both internal electrical expertise, and the best suppliers available, we deliver high quality, cost effective solutions for switchboard upgrades.
Structural Assessment and Cert.
Structural assessments are an integral part of the Projects team’s preliminary study into the site conditions to ensure that the structural integrity of any building is suitable for solar. All roof-mounted solar systems are delivered with a structural assessment of the supporting structure and solar array mounting frame. By engaging experienced structural engineers, and applying our own knowledge, we are able to achieve structural approvals quickly, and where necessary recommend structural modifications that are considerate of the clients needs.
Energy Monitoring and Analysis
Our Analysis team can take your energy interval data to complete a comprehensive solar feasibility study. Smart takes your energy usage and high-resolution aerial images to simulate the system performance based on real historical weather. Smart will determine the system size to effectively minimize your return on investment. Maintaining a comprehensive understanding of our clients energy profile is crucial to delivering results. By collecting and using energy data we are able to develop and uphold the best possible returns for our customers.
Geotechnical assessment
All ground mounted PV systems will require a geotechnical assessment to determine the soil quality. Smart has a variety of partners to test the area prior to piling or concreting to ensure the array frame maintains compliance with the manufacturer’s soil quality requirements.
Underground service scanning and detection
It is imperative to scan for underground services such as gas, power, communications, and water lines before undertaking any civil works involving digging, trenching, or boring. Service scanning ensures that the risk of damaging existing services is navigated and forms an integral part of our preliminary work prior to construction.
Storage and backup requirements
Smart has extensive experience in off-grid and battery backup systems, both in Australia and overseas. Our engineering team develops storage systems which tailor to the needs of our clients. With thorough analysis and engineering, we develop storage and backup solutions that provide optimal savings, reliability, and energy security. With our proactive monitoring, we ensure that your storage and backup are fully operational when you need it most.
Power Factor Correction
PFC is poorly understood in the solar industry. Smart works with our clients to understand their energy requirements and the effect of solar on their power quality. Through in-depth analysis and engineering, Smart is able to provide PFC solutions that are correctly sized, correctly designed, and correctly priced for the needs of the client.
When you engage Smart Commercial Solar, you’re engaging Australia’s best EPC to design and construct your system. Our processes have been honed over thousands of installs across every DNSP.
We make the process simple.
1. Client engagement and approvals
The engineering department closely engage the client through the detailed design process. We collaborate with our clients to achieve the best outcome and seek approvals on all final designs.
2. Site Assessments
An initial site assessment is an essential step to understanding the environmental and electrical site conditions. Smart will send a representative to inspect the roof, switchboards and necessary details required for connection and council approvals and scope out areas which may be used during construction.
Drawings provide crucial information to installers, clients, and other contractors. Rigorous drawing processes allow SCS to provide industry-leading clarity through our drawn documentation.
Detailed system drawings:
- SLD
- String design
- Metering and monitoring schematics
- Grid protection design
Once information is extracted from a site assessment, Smart develops detailed system drawings required for connection approval with the relevant DNSP and the construction of the PV system. These drawings are developed by CEC accredited engineers, in accordance with the latest CEC guidelines and relevant Australian Standards. The drawings are designed to be technical, yet clearly readable for solar installers and other sub-contractors.
3. Structural Assessment
Years of experience in designing customised battery solutions has lead to our ability to design high-performance, rapid deployment containerised BESS solutions. Shipping containers make great enclosures for any Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). These can be fitted out off site before arriving on site for a much quicker installation than usual. This is the neatest and lowest maintenance way to install a BESS.
4. Detailed Design
Smart engineers leverage years of experience on a multitude of projects to ensure the system design is as efficient as possible.
Some examples of the due diligence our engineering team will perform are; fault rating and prospective short circuit current calculations, voltage rise and impedance calculations, discrimination/grading of switchgear, thermal de-rating of equipment, assessments of corrosivity and wind loading.
Bespoke engineering
SCS has developed extensive experience in delivering highly engineered solutions to niche problems. By combining the broad experience base of our engineers, with the creativity of our team, and the diligent execution by our contractors, we are able to implement world first solutions.
