The Solar System Reduces the Consumption of the Entire Site by 16%.
Impact International is a global tube manufacturer for a number of high profile brands such as; Colgate, Dencorub and Nestle. The manufacturing operates out of their Australian headquarters in Smithfield, NSW.
Energy is a significant cost to the business, with many increases over the last few years. More of their customers are looking at the sustainability practices of their manufacturers and scrutinising what they are doing to offset their impact on the environment. Some may even choose not to do business with a particular manufacturer unless they are sustainably considering their facilities and processes, eg. solar, lighting, sourcing sustainable materials.
Impact International contacted Smart Commercial Solar to overcome their environmental challenges, aiming to reduce their grid supplied electricity and make a strong commitment to renewable energy. General Manager, Aleks Lajovic, took full advantage of Smart’s capabilities in sourcing a bold commercial system.
The factory roof did not provide enough space to meet the recommended 290kW system size. The final solution employed 175kW on the roof, with another 115kW installed next to the property on a unique ground mount.
5B, which stands for “5 billion years of sunlight”, is an Australian produced ground mount system that is (quite literally) rolled out onto the paddock using a ballast mounted approach, requiring no footings to be dug.
In an environment where there can be significant particulates floating in the air due to the manufacturing process, Trina DUOMAX panels are mounted flush to the roof.
This aims to help reduce the need to clean the panels throughout the lifetime of the system. Jinko Eagle modules are certified with 5B ground mounts, which come installed and prefabricated off-site. The solar system reduces the consumption of the entire site by 16%.
“We wanted to make a big impact. Utilise our ground space. Smart provided engineering analysis and procurement under one roof with great customer service.”
