Case Study
Tamburlaine Organic Wines
Project Size:
70kW Solar pv
Tamburlaine Organic Wines, Australia's largest producer of organic wines, has been a pioneer in both organic farming techniques and energy efficiency.
Named after Christopher Marlowe's famous play and character ‘Tamburlaine the Great’, the business lives up to its name with award-winning organic, vegan-friendly, low sulphur and no added sulphur wines.
As part of their commitment to environmental responsibility, they integrated renewable energy into their operations through the installation of a 70kW solar photovoltaic (PV) system.
~102MWh annual generation
134.75 tonnes of CO2 saved
- 66t C02 emissions annually
THE CHALLENGE
Tamburlaine's operations, particularly their refrigeration plant, were significant consumers of electricity. The goal was to reduce their overall energy consumption and associated greenhouse gas emissions while supporting their reputation as a leader in sustainable wine production.
THE SOLUTION
As part of a broader energy efficiency program, Tamburlaine installed a 70kW rooftop solar PV system, along with other energy-saving technologies, including lighting upgrades, power factor correction, and the optimisation of their refrigeration system. These initiatives not only reduced their energy demand but also aligned with their organic and environmentally responsible brand values.
"We are not only pioneers in organic farming techniques,
we are committed to ensuring that our entire production is
carried out in an environmentally responsible way."
- Tamburlaine Organic Winery
THE RESULTS
The solar installation contributed to a remarkable 53.4% reduction in total energy use, equating to an annual energy saving of 248.5 MWh. This significant reduction in energy consumption has saved Tamburlaine around $160,000 per year and enhanced their credibility both on-site and in the marketplace.
THE SUMMARY
Tamburlaine Organic Wines' investment in solar energy and other efficiency measures showcases how sustainable practices can lead to substantial economic and environmental benefits. Their success story is a testament to the potential of renewable energy in reducing operational costs and supporting long-term business sustainability.
