I have to say, one of the most exciting technology finds from the show was the PowerPlus packaged off-grid systems and the incredible capabilities they're displaying - with their grid reliability boxes and future plans. The Pixii inverters are also fascinating so taking a moment to dive deep with their Head of Engineering, we shared some really innovative ideas about where the industry could be headed. We were definitely on the same wavelength when it came to the future of batteries and their potential to perform multiple functions at once.
Speaking with different technology providers is the best part of these events. What stood out to me was that companies that have not fully embraced battery storage were missing out on a lot of foot traffic. It's a clear sign of where the industry is heading, and a reminder that focusing on simply supplying inverters or panels is less exciting than it used to be and could almost be taken for granted.
The real excitement was around those who were doing something different, particularly when it comes to storage. And it's not surprising, really, given how quickly the landscape is changing.
It was also noteworthy to see some parts of the renewable industry missing from the event. We can get somewhat narrow-minded thinking only about solar, batteries and wind turbines but I think there are opportunities for less mainstream technology, particularly waste-to-energy and others, to be included with the rest of the renewables industry. I suppose my view is that there are still lots of opportunities for the industry to grow and develop and Smart is particularly interested in diversifying as well.
I'm seeing Australia shifting towards a more forward-thinking mindset when it comes to technology and innovation, and events like this only serve to highlight that fact.
It was wonderful to have my father, Maarten, join me at the event and check out what the industry is all about. As a former coal power station turbine engineer and designer, he was intrigued by the latest innovations and blown away by the energy - no pun intended - in the room. The enthusiasm and kindness of everyone he met left a lasting impression on him, and it's something we should all strive to cultivate.
We work within an industry driven by passionate individuals who are committed to making a difference, and that's what makes it such an exciting space to be a part of.
